about

MAGIC KINGDOM is not only one of four Walt Disney theme parks in Florida, but also a Symphonic Epic Speed Metal Band hailing from Belgium. And just as the kids enjoy their theme park experience, Metal fans enjoy the music produced by the namesake of the amusement fair... "Symphony Of War" is the third release by the Belgians so far, and it's even better than their classy last output "Metallic Tragedy" which came out in 2004. Master mind Dushan Petrossi has created a really ambitious work - "Symphony Of War” will attract a plethora of fans, be it Malmsteen or Rhapsody of Fire aficionados. The sound is influenced by classical music, filigree riffing, big choirs and mighty melodies, notwithstanding first-class Metal attacks and a well-balanced heaviness. After a wait of six years, "Symphony Of War" finally is the compensation the fans have needed, and an impressive statement by a band that has always hung in there. When Dushan Petrossi started MAGIC KINGDOM in 1998, he had a musical vision he wanted to pursue. Petrossi's musical roots go back to Malmsteen or old Symphony X as well as Bach, and Händel. The combination of various eras has been the band's objective from the start, even 1999, when they released their debut album "The Arrival" (on which the quintet laid the foundation stone for their further career). Even then, Petrossi tried to create catchy melodies and intoxicating compositions. "The Arrival" was a nicely received album – unfortunately, it took another five years until MAGIC KINGDOM were able to present the next one. Mind you, Petrossi hadn't been lazy, no - he had always been very busy with his solo project Iron Mask during those years. In the meantime, the line-up of MAGIC KINGDOM was relatively constant, but the band was lacking live performances. At that time, several Tribute albums featuring Petrossi were released – among others "Give Us Moore - Tribute to Gary Moore" where he appears on the track "Out In The Fields". 2004, "Metallic Tragedy" was released on Limb Music Products, and the glove with the name tag 'Symphonic Power Speed Metal' fitted perfectly. The album got great reviews. Adding to the excitement of it was also the guest appearance of ex-AT VANCE vocalist Oliver Hartmann on two tracks. But after the album's release, the band was in for a bumpy ride: In 2006, the band parted with singer Max Leclerq, followed by rumours about Lance King (ex-Pyramaze / ex-Balance Of Power vocalist) maybe joining the band. Finally, Olaf Hayer (Luca Turilli, Dionysus) completed the Belgian outfit. 2008, they hired a new keyboarder: Phillippe "Phil" Giordana, a well-known scene staple mostly known for his band Fairyland, joined the line-up. During all that time, Dushan Petrossi was working on new song material meant to evolve into the third MAGIC KINGDOM album. 2009, Limb Music set up a contact to Uwe Lulis (Rebellion, ex-Grave Digger), and the third MAGIC KINGDOM opus started to emerge. The collaboration turned out to be difficult, though: Lulis had a serious accident and the work on the album had to be postponed. But at the end of 2009, the final mix was finally accomplished: "Symphony Of War" was ready for a release in 2010. In the meantime, Petrossi (with Iron Mask) had the opportunity to perform at prestigious Graspop festival - and had to cancel the already announced "Barock Heroes Tour" of MAGIC KINGDOM due to the incompetence of the responsible promoter. "Symphony Of War" is a versatile, powerful successor of "Metallic Tragedy”, building on the latter's assets. The current line-up of MAGIC KINGDOM includes Dushan Petrossi, Olaf Hayer (vocals), Vassili Moltchanov (bass), Freddy Ortscheid (drums), Phil Giordana (keyboards) and Roma Siedletski (extreme and death vox). As the band name suggests, the lyrics lead us to a time far away in the past: it's about honour, battles, warlords, dragons, and demons. Surrounded by the appropriate musical atmosphere, "Symphony Of War" as a complete entity appears like a soundtrack for a blockbuster history movie. At the core of the album, you'll find the song "Metallic Tragedy - Chapter 2: The Holy Pentalogy", which is divided into five different segments and almost half an hour long. It is a perfect epitome of all the band's trademarks: speedy attacks are accompanied by orchestral, classical parts - all without boring the listener with the same old tunes again and again. The boys have got their priorities set! But even shorter tracks such as peppy "Monte Cristo" are good examples of the band's versatility and dynamics. "We Rise", with its catchy chorus and excellent guitar work, is pure ear candy - a real Metal anthem! "I'm A Lionheart" gets you with a galloping, pulsating rhythm. Generally, the songs are pretty fast, yet still each one is totally unique. The cover artwork was done by Leo Hao who has already worked for such scene greats as Blind Guardian and Iced Earth. The limited double CD (including two bonus tracks, videoclips and wallpapers) is available in a nifty slipcase, and comes with a poster and a sticker. "Symphony Of War" marks an enormous leap in quality by the Belgians - tough stuff for their competitors.
